Elfun Medical Benefits Plan
Today, 20,000 participants in the Elfun Medical Benefits Plan are
enjoying superior post-65 health care coverage characterized by stability,
choice and value. The Elfun plan delivers broad coverage with full choice
of physicians - including specialists - hospitals and emergency services
at any time, anywhere (even while traveling outside the US).
With this plan, eligible Elfun members enjoy a high level of benefits.
Prerequisite for purchasing the Elfun plan is participation in Medicare,
plus coverage under GE Medical Care Plan for Pensioners and GE Pensioners
Prescription Drug Plan. These GE plans are available to eligible retirees
participating in GE Benefits while an employee.
In addition to flexibility in physician choice, the Elfun Plan offers
comprehensive coverage that wraps around Medicare and the GE Medicare
Benefit Plans, including coverage for prescription drugs, preventive
health screening procedures, additional medical expenses not covered
by Medicare, plus dental exams, x-rays and cleanings.
Participants pay the full cost of this coverage. The monthly premium
in 2007 is $108 per covered individual.
Eligible members (see below) receive detailed information about the
Elfun Medical Benefits Plan when they retire, along with other information
about GE's post-65 medical coverage. At that time, members may indicate
their desire to participate in the Elfun Plan when they reach age 65.
They may also indicate whether their spouse will participate when he
or she reaches age 65.
Before their 65th birthday, GE Corporate Benefits Delivery
sends additional information about post-65 medical benefit choices,
both the Company and Elfun plans. Members have the opportunity to
confirm their elections. If they did not select the Elfun plan at
retirement, this provides a second opportunity prior to turning 65.
